The ICTMS conference will take place in Cape Town at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 1-5 July 2024
The topics of the conference include all areas related to the tomography of materials and structures, covering both methods and applications. With the beautiful city of Cape Town and Table Mountain as backdrop, we are putting together an event not to be missed. The conference takes place over a full week, with invited talks, poster sessions and social events including the opening cocktail function and gala dinner. See the full line-up of invited speakers at https://tomography2024.com/invited-speakers/. Registration includes all events for the full week as well as daily lunches and coffee/tea breaks.

Important travel and planning information
We are looking forward to welcoming you to beautiful Cape Town, South Africa for the 6th International Conference on Tomography of Materials and Structures (ICTMS2024)! We are all looking forward to an exciting and stimulating conference, running the full week 1-5 July 2024 (start Monday at 9:00AM and end Friday approx 14:00PM). Keeping watching the website www.tomography2024.com to find all the latest information as it is constantly updated. The provisional program will be made available at the end of March, and late poster submissions will be possible at that time, so keep watching that space!
This page contains important travel information to make your arrangements simple and stress-free.
- Scams: we have had multiple reports of emails soliciting invited speakers to arrange their accommodation or travel for ICTMS, asking for credit card details or document signatures. The contact details of invited speakers have been most likely found because of their names on our website. These are scams and obviously not endorsed by the ICTMS or by IntACT. Since we will post the provisional program to the website, these attempts may increase and spread to more delegates. Please ignore such emails and only use reliable sources. If in doubt please email the conference organizers at ictms@allevents.co.za.
- Flights: As you might have seen, there are many direct international flights in and out of Cape Town daily – that means you can fly in directly to Cape Town from Europe, US or other locations. In some cases a connecting flight via Johannesburg might be easier depending on the arrival and departure times required. On arrival in South Africa, you might need a visa, so please check your entry requirements as soon as possible (one way to check is to use this website: traveldoc.aero). If you require an invitation letter for visa application purposes, please email ictms@allevents.co.za.
- Local ground transportation: On arrival in Cape Town airport, you will need transport to your hotel. South Africa does not have any reliable public transport system. Please make use of taxi’s and shuttle services as far as possible. Rental cars are also possible (but keep in mind we drive on the left side of the road). Please be aware that there are many offers of taxi services at the airport but it is best to book this in advance, see below information on a reliable option:
Airport transfers: The LOC have arranged for Citi Hopper to assist delegates with airport transfers. They are based at Cape Town International Airport at the domestic arrivals hall as you exit from the terminal opposite Woolworths, under the escalator as well as international arrivals. Please book and pay directly. Please quote reference: ICTMS
The negotiated rates are as follows:
1 Pax R400 for the vehicle (max 9 people per vehicle)
Additional travellers will be charged R50 per person
Additional Afterhours surcharge of R60 for all transfers taking place between 22:00pm – 06:00am.
International arrivals surcharge of R100 charged per vehicle.

When moving around in Cape Town or anywhere in South Africa, be aware of your surroundings and rather use taxi services after dark. Most hotels offer taxi or shuttle services.
- Accommodation: As the conference is taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), it is best to book hotel accommodation close to this location to allow walking to and from the venue (conference location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/LVHaVDopuCY9VSRE7).
Hotel Sky Cape Town. We have secured a special conference rate at the Hotel Sky Cape Town (When making a booking use the link and booking code below: https://nebulacrs.hti.app/hotelsky/groups/ Promotion Code: ICTMS2024)
The Westin Hotel Cape Town (5 star hotel) is also right next to the venue and we have secured a special rate also here: Book your group rate for ICTMS 2024
Southern Sun “The Cullinan” and Southern Sun “Waterfront Hotel” are both also very well situated near the venue. Please make bookings directly.

Other hotels especially in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront tourist area (https://www.google.com/maps/search/Hotels/@-33.9118801,18.4136769,15z/data=!4m10!2m9!3m5!2sV+%26+A+Waterfront!3s0x1dcc67599abb5bb3:0xcc1a97af54b0520b!4m2!1d18.4225974!2d-33.9070041!5m2!5m1!1s2024-04-24?entry=ttu) are also very comfortable and well located, but please make use of shuttle services available rather than walking from the hotel to the conference venue, as there are large highways to cross and safety is always important, especially at night.
- 3rd IntACT Advanced course: please be aware of the Advanced Course on Tomography for Geo-engineering taking place the week before ICTMS (https://intact-course03.sciencesconf.org/). This takes place from 26-28 June in Stellenbosch (not Cape Town, approx. 60 km away), and is separately organized – you need to register separately for that.
- Tourism and other information: Please have a look around Cape Town tourism options and plan to stay a few days extra before or after ICTMS, to make the most of your trip. See all the best Cape Town has to offer on this site: https://www.capetown.travel/. We have a special arrangement with WOW tours who can assist you with day tours, various tourist booking options and tour information https://wowtraveltours.com. For any further questions about tourism or assistance with accommodation bookings, please contact Crystal at Centeq events crystal@centeqevents.co.za.
We look forward to your participation at ICTMS-2024 !
